Bon Jovi at Ultra Music Festival

Jon Bon Jovi surprised the crowd at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival 2024 on Sunday, performing with trance legend Armin van Buuren. Bon Jovi jumped up and down and sang the chorus to the producer’s new remix of the 1992 Bon Jovi classic ‘Keep the Faith’.

INXS - Never Tear Us Apart

To celebrate the “35th” anniversary of the video for ‘Never Tear Us Apart”, the band is revisiting the iconic song and its stunning music video with a behind-the-scenes video, featuring deleted scenes and interviews with late singer Michael Hutchence. The song has notched more than 850 million streams across all platforms, and the video has more than 100 million views on YouTube. 

 

Styx Band Member Leaves Group

Styx played its first show on Friday in Wallingford CT since bassist Ricky Phillips announced his departure from the group. His replacement? Singer Larry Gowan’s brother, Terry Gowan. He’s a noted movie music composer, and has played in Larry’s solo band, and other acts. No word on if the position is permanent.

 

David Bowie Box Set

June 14 marks the release of “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star!”, a new box set covering his career from 1971 through recording of the iconic “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars” album. It will include UK radio sessions and TV performances, as well as live recordings from his October 1, 1972 show at the Boston Music Hall.

Neil Young Back on Spotify

His music will return to Spotify. In 2022, he had it removed because Spotify also distributes Joe Rogan’s podcast, which he said was spreading vaccine misinformation. But now Rogan has signed a deal to make his podcast available on multiple platforms. Young wrote: “I cannot leave all those services…because my music would have no streaming outlet…at all, I have returned.”

Brian Johnson & Mark Knopfler New TV Series

Brian Johnson is teaming up with Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler for a new TV series. “Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends” will see them speak about their careers and music, and talk with guests, including Carlos Santana, Tom Jones, and Cyndi Lauper. The 6-part series premieres April 25 on Sky Arts, Freeview and NOW.

Elton John's Academy Awards Viewing Party

Elton John's annual Academy Awards viewing party, benefitting the Elton John AIDS Foundation, raised $10.8 million, a new record. Even though he couldn’t walk the red carpet, thanks to a recent knee replacement, John still managed to pound out a few tunes on piano, in front of guests including Sharon Stone, Brandi Carlile, Danny DeVito, Elizabeth Hurley, Heidi Klum, and more.

Sting Tour

Sting has announced the “Sting 3.0” tour. He’ll hit the road in North America this fall as the head of a new 3-piece lineup, starting Sept. 17 in Detroit. The former Police frontman will be joined by guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

John Fogerty Touring with George Thorogood

John Fogerty has announced that he’ll be touring with George Thorogood this summer. Fogerty wrote: “For years we’ve talked about doing a full tour together. This summer we decided time is short, we better do this now!” Their gigs together start June 2 in Simpsonville SC, and run through Sept. 11 in Salt Lake City.

 

 

Jimmy Buffet Tribute Concert

Jon Bon Jovi and the Eagles are 2 of the artists confirmed to play at the upcoming Jimmy Buffet tribute concert at the Hollywood Bowl on April 11. “Keep The Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett” will also feature performances by Paul McCartney, Brando Carlile, Eric Church, Kenny Chesney, and many more.

Gordon Lightfoot Memorial Highway

Gordon Lightfoot 11,000 fans have signed a Change.org petition to name the 400 highway north of Toronto ON, or a part of it, “The Gordon Lightfoot Memorial Highway.” The 400 leads toward his hometown of Orillia ON.


(How about “The Gordon Lightfoot Carefree Highway”?)

Ozzy's Latest Drops on March 21

Ozzy Osbourne has a collab with Billy Idol guitarists Billy Morrison and Steve Stevens coming. ‘Crack Cocaine’ arrives on March 21, as does a video featuring appearances by Paris Jackson, RISK, and Jeff Hilliard.

 

 

Selena Gomez to Play Linda Ronstadt in Biopic

Selena Gomez’s next screen role is set, as the Pop artist and co-star of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building prepares to take on the life of fellow Mexican-American Country, Rock, and Latin music legend Linda Ronstadt.

The biopic is being produced by Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, as well as James Keach, who produced the 2019 documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.

Ronstadt began her recording career in the late ‘60s and found success across multiple genres, allowing her to collect a total of 11 GRAMMY Awards, as well as honors from the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Lenny Kravitz Hollywood Star

Lenny Kravitz will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today. Speakers on hand for the event will include his daughter, actress Zoë Kravitz, and Denzel Washington.

Madonna at Rio

The city of Rio de Janeiro has announced she’ll be performing a huge, free show there. She’ll close out her “Celebration” world tour with a concert on Copacabana Beach on May 4, with about 2 million people in attendance.

Lee Tiger Halley is AC/DC Biopic

The upcoming biopic about late singer Bon Scott has landed its star. Lee Tiger Halley will play the lead in the film, tentatively titled “The Kid From Harvest Road”. Halley starred in the Netflix series “Boy Swallows World”, as well as several TV series in his native Australia. Production starts next year.

Digging in the Dirt Cover Reveal

Sheryl Crow has unveiled her cover of the 1992 Peter Gabriel classic ‘Digging in the Dirt’, featuring Gabriel himself. The 2 share vocals on the new recording, which appears on Crow’s album, “Evolution”, out March 29. 

 

 

 

 

Bon Jovi's Series Release April 26

Hulu has released the first trailer for the upcoming 4-part series “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story”. It will chronicle “the epic past and uncertain future of one of the most recognizable bands in the world and its frontman Jon Bon Jovi”. It’ll be available to stream on April 26. 

 

 

The Doobie Brothers New Album

The Doobie Brothers have almost completed a new album with Michael McDonald, their first new release together since 1980’s “One Step Closer”. On Facebook, Pat Simmons said they are shooting for a “spring/summer release”. McDonald rejoined the band for its 50th anniversary tour in 2021.

Billy Idol 40th Anniversary Album

Billy Idol will release a deluxe, expanded 40th anniversary edition of his “Rebel Yell” album on April 26. It’ll feature several previously unreleased songs and demos, including the Idol original ‘Best Way Out of Here’, a “poolside remix” of ‘Eyes Without a Face’, and a cover of Rose Royce’s ‘Love Don’t Live Here Anymore’, which drops today.

Slash Solo Album

The GN’R guitarist will announce a new solo album this morning. In a teaser, he says: “If you were to listen to anything that I do, you can see how big the blues influence is, and I’d always thought that I’d want to record a (blues) record at some point. Best of Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen will release “Best of Bruce Springsteen” on April 19. Songs will span from 1973’s “Greeting From Asbury Park, NJ” all the way to 2020’s “Letter to You”. The physical version contains 18 songs, and 31 will be on the digital release. He and The E Street Band will be touring the US, Canada and Europe this year, beginning March 19 in Phoenix.

 

Paramore & Talking Heads Covers

With Paramore having covered Talking Heads’ ‘Burning Down the House’, David Byrne is returning the favor. He has recorded a version of Paramore’s ‘Hard Times’, which will be released alongside Paramore’s Burning Down the House” on a 12-inch vinyl single exclusively for Record Store Day, April 20.

Alex Van Halen's Memoir

Alex Van Halen’s upcoming memoir is a “love letter” to late brother Eddie, according to the first details to surface. Out October 22, the book, titled “Brothers” runs 384 pages, and is described as an “accurate account” of the brothers’ lives, and as setting the record straight on Eddie’s death.

Nickelback & Mötley Crüe Headline Ottawa Bluesfest 30

Nickelback and Mötley Crüe are among the headliners announced for this summer’s Ottawa Bluesfest 30, set for July 4-14. Other big names include: 50 Cent, Maroon 5, Neil Young, Nas, Killer Mike, Tyler Childers, Tokyo Police Club, The Tea Party and JJ Wilde.

Def Leppard's Latest Release

Friday, Def Leppard released Photograph – Rough Mix Version (Unfinished Vocal)’, from their upcoming deluxe 40th anniversary edition of “Pyromania”, out April 26. Joe Elliott says much of the bonus material was “brilliantly restored” from “dusty cassettes”. 

 

 

NSYNC Reunion on Timerlake's Newest Album

 Justin Timberlake has confirmed the group has reunited to record a song on his upcoming album “Everything I Thought It Was”, out March 15. While displaying the cover art on TikTok, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the track list showed the tune ‘Paradise’ will feature the boy band.

Loverboy's 1982 'Turn me Loose' Performance

Loverboy has dropped a video of them performing ‘Turn Me Loose’ from the upcoming “Live in ‘82”, a new concert film and live album, out June 7. 16mm footage was taken from the personal archives of guitarist Paul Dean, then fully restored and remixed. 

 

 

Def Leppard's 'Pyromania' Turns 40!

Def Leppard will belatedly celebrate the 40th anniversary of monster album “Pyromania” with a reissue featuring previously unreleased songs, live footage and more. “Pyromania 40” will arrive on April 26 in formats including a 4-CD/Blu-ray box, a 1-LP half-speed master, 2-LP black vinyl, two-LP colored vinyl, 2-CD and digitally. 

 

 

Eagles Opportunity at Vegas Sphere

Eagles are reported to still be negotiating a residency at the new Sphere venue in Las Vegas. Talks started in August, but now, owner James Dolan is reported to be intent on booking the group to step into the classic rock void that will be left by U2 when their gig there ends tomorrow. Eagles are currently on their “Long Goodbye” farewell tour through mid-November.
