Train, REO Speedwagon, Yacht Revue Announce Tour

REO Speedwagon will hit the road this summer with Train. “Summer Road Trip 2024” starts July 8 in Somerset WI, and runs through September, with one Canadian date, July 20 in Toronto. Both groups will team up for a special performance tonight on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Candid Footage of The Beatles Up for Bid

Never-before-seen candid film footage of the group has hit the auction block. The 3:17 clip features a behind-the-scenes glimpse from the 1965 film “Help!”. It has a starting bid of $1,000 on RR Auction, and is estimated to go for over $10K.

Heart Announces Tour with Cheap Trick

Heart has announced the 2024 “Royal Flush” tour with Cheap Trick, their first since 2019. The North American leg will launch on April 20 in Greenville SC. Heart will also head to Europe in late June through mid-July, with Squeeze opening select dates.

AC/DC Tour Without Bassist

AC/DC will reportedly be touring this year, but without bassist Cliff Williams. No word on a replacement. According a Brazilian newspaper, the band has already booked 4 shows in that country, including 2 at this year’s edition of the legendary Rock In Rio festival in Rio De Janeiro.

U2 Gives Acoustic Throwback Performance

U2 performed an acoustic cover of the 1986 Crowded House hit ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ during its first Las Vegas Sphere show of 2024. U2 also played their 1987 B-side ‘The Sweetest Thing’ for the first time since 2017. 

 

 

Jon Bon Jovi to be Honored in Gala

The full performers list has been announced for the MusiCares Person of The Year benefit gala on Feb. 2, honoring Jon Bon Jovi. In addition to Bon Jovi, Melissa Etheridge, Jason Isbell, Bruce Springsteen and Shania Twain, Brandy Clark, Damiano David of Måneskin, Goo Goo Dolls, Jelly Roll, Marcus King, The War and Treaty, and Lainey Wilson will all take the stage. Jim Gaffigan will host.

 

Elton John's Farewell

Sept. 24, Elton John will release the book “Farewell Yellow Brick Road: Memories of My Life on Tour”. It will feature specific concerts from his 5-year farewell tour, plus his reflections on the beginning of his career. It’s available to preorder now. Madonna Releases EP

Friday she released a 5-song EP featuring reworkings ‘Popular’, her 2023 collab with The Weeknd and Playboy Carti. It includes the original, plus sped-up, slowed-down, instrumental, and acappella versions of the hit. The song has been picking up steam on TikTok recently.

 

 

Bon Jovi Deluxe Release

More news: The group has kicked off “#BonJovi40” by announcing the deluxe re-release of its self-titled debut album, featuring 9 bonus tracks. It’s only available on streaming, LP and cassette, not CD. 

 

 

Guns N' Roses AI Music Video Released

Guns N’ Roses has unveiled a video for the new song ‘The General’, which dropped last month.  The band’s first-ever A.I.-powered music video intercuts 20 live vignettes with an animated dive into the subconscious of a young boy who stares down the monsters of dark childhood memories.

Billy Joel to Perform at Gammys

Billy Joel has been added to the lineup of performers for the 66th annual Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy has announced. Joel, who made his Grammy stage debut in 1988 singing ‘New York State of Mind’, will return at the Feb. 4 ceremony, joining a lineup that includes Burna Boy, Luke Combs, Travis Scott, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo. A 5-time winner and Grammy Legend Award recipient, Joel has just announced the release of ‘Turn the Lights Back On’, his first new single in 17 years.

The Doobie Brother's 2024 Tour

The Doobie Brothers will hit the road this year with special guests Steve Winwood and Robert Cray. The just-announced US tour will begin on June 15 in Seattle, and wrap Aug. 30 in Salt Lake City. Billy Joel's First New Song Since 2007

Feb. 1st, he’ll drop ‘Turn the Lights Back On’, his first new song since 2007. The news comes after Joel’s social media pages put up the cryptic handwritten message: “Did I wait too long …,” which could be lyrics from the new tune. 

 

 

Bon Jovi Reunion with Guitarist

Bon Jovi reportedly will reunite with longtime guitarist Richie Sambora when Jon Bon Jovi is honored as the 2024 MusiCares Person of The Year on Feb. 2 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Roger Friedman’s Showbiz 411 says the event traditionally features “a bunch of stars play[ing] the honoree’s songs”, opening the door to the possibility of a Bon Jovi reunion.

Jack Black Joins Foo Fighters on Stage

Foo Fighters were joined onstage by Jack Black in Aukland, New Zealand on Saturday for a rendition of one of a classic AC/DC song. As usual, the band called on drum tech Fiona to sing lead, while Black, who is currently in New Zealand filming the “Minecraft” movie, did Jack Black-y things onstage. Check it out below!

 

Michael Jackson's Biopic is in Progress

9-year-old actor Juliano Krue Valdi has been cast as the younger Michael in the upcoming biopic. The film, from director Antoine Fuqua, will have Valdi playing Jackson “as he and his brothers rise to fame as the Jackson 5”. Krue has nearly 150,000 followers on Instagram and is known for his Jackson-inspired dance moves and costumes. 

 

 

David Lee Roth's Expensive Hobby

David Lee Roth claims in a new YouTube video that he recently spent $92,000 on marijuana. Quote: “I smoke every day. I smoke my body weight.” He then gets his business manager on the phone, asking: “Jerry, would you please share with the folks my recent bill for pot coming from The Silver Lake dispensary?” Jerry responds: “Are you sure you want to hear this? $92,000.”

 

 

Red Hot Chili Peppers Member Biopic in the Works

Anthony Kiedis’ autobiography “Scar Tissue” is being turned into a biopic. Universal Pictures has optioned the rights to the singer’s New York Times best seller. Brian Grazer, who was behind Oscar-nominated films like “Splash’, and “Apollo 13”, will produce.

Tracy Chapman to Accept Award

Tracy Chapman will receive a lifetime achievement award at the 2024 International Folk Music Awards on Feb. 21. She’ll be honored at the Folk Alliance International Conference in Kansas City MO.

Justin Timberlake Returns to SNL!

Justin Timberlake will make his return to “Saturday Night Live” as musical guest on Jan. 27. It’ll be his 5th time as a solo artist. Dakota Johnson will host for a second time.

Usher to Perform at the Big Game

Usher won’t give up many details ahead of his Super Bowl halftime show performance on Feb. 11, but he did say to Vogue that he’s preparing a career-spanning set, and “It has to be perfect.” He also said: “This night was specifically curated in my mind to have R&B take the main stage.”

Green Day Announces Tour

Green Day will embark on the “Saviors” tour this summer in support of their new album of the same name, but they’ve just announced that they will playing 2 of their classic albums in full: 1994’s “Dookie” and 2004’s “American Idiot”. The group considers the 3 records all part of a trifecta.

R.E.M. Joins Song Writer Hall of Fame

All 4 members are among those announced as 2024 inductees to the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Also on the list are Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan, Hillary Lindsey (‘Jesus. Take the Wheel’), Timothy Mosley (Timbaland), and Dean Pitchford (‘Footloose’).

No Doubt Reunites for Coachella

Queen's IMAX Concert to Hit Theaters

The concert film “Queen Rock Montreal” hits IMAX theaters tomorrow through Sunday, bringing to the big screen the spectacle that was Queen’s shows at Forum de Montréal Nov. 2425, 1981. A preview clip of the group’s performance of ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ has been released.

Madonna Greets the Wrong City

Madonna apologized after greeting her Toronto audience last week by shouting: Hello Boston!” The Spinal Tap-esque moment happened at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, days after she performed in Boston. A fan-shot TikTok shows her asking the crowd: “Are you guys mad at me ’cause I said ‘Hello, Boston!’? I’m sorry. What kind of (bleeped) up (bleep) is that? That would be like if you guys were saying, ‘Hey, Lady Gaga’s playing tonight!’”

Elton John is Downsizing

 Elton's former penthouse residence in Atlanta has been emptied for a series of auctions at Christie’s starting Feb. 21 – and the items are expected to bring in about $10 million. The most expensive item is a 2017 Banksy painting of a masked man hurling a bouquet of flowers, which is expected to sell for about $1.5 million.

The Who Is Not Planning Any Tours

Roger Daltrey said there are currently no touring plans in place for the Who, and he’s happy with that. The 79-year-old told a reporter that he needs to discuss things with bandmate Pete Townshend, but he’s “happy saying that part of my life is over.” The group is scheduled to perform at the last of Daltrey’s Teenage Cancer Trust charity shows, which will take place in London in March.

Rolling Stones to Release New Album

March 8, Rolling Stones will release “Live at the Wiltern”, recorded in 2002 while the band was touring to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The album, available in 3LP, 2CD and DVD/Blu-ray, was recorded at the intimate Wiltern Theatre in LA, a far cry from the stadiums the band mostly played during its “40 Licks” tour that year. Mel B teased a big announcement, which involves “all 5 of us” during an appearance on “Today With Hoda & Jenna”. She said she was “going to get myself into so much trouble” but “we’re actually going to be releasing some really good news in about a few weeks”.

Destiny's Child is BACK.... Kind Of!

Beyoncé, Michelle Williams, and Kelly Rowland reunited on Saturday — to sing ‘Happy Birthday’. The trio gathered at the Fleur Room in Los Angeles to celebrate the 50th birthday of Tim Weatherspoon, Rowland’s husband. Other attendees included The Weeknd, Kris Jenner, Jay-Z, and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. The 3 last sang together in 2018 at Bey’s Coachella performance.

 

 

Selena Gomez will Play Linda Ronstadt in New Biopic

Selena Gomez has signed on to play Linda Ronstadt in a biopic. The pop singer and “Only Murders in the Building” star teased the role on Instagram, posting a picture of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir “Simple Dreams”. Ronstadt’s social media accounts posted a news story about the movie, with the message, “It all started with a simple dream.” The biopic is currently in pre-production, with producers including Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, and James Keach, who produced the 2019 documentary “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.” Ronstadt and Gomez are both of Mexican descent.

David Bowie Honored in Paris

The city of Paris has named a street after him. “Rue David Bowie” was officially inaugurated yesterday, on what would have been David Bowies 77th Birthday, in the capital’s 13th district on the left bank of the city.

Billy Joel to Begin Arena Tour

Billy Joel has announced a run of stadium and arena shows in the US stretching from January through September, with Stevie Nicks and Sting opening some of them. Sting’s first appearance with Joel will be Feb. 24 in Tampa at Raymond James Stadium, while Nicks opens on March 9 in Arlington.

Harvard's T-Swift Class in Need of Assistance

Harvard University is seeking additional teaching assistants for its highly sought-after class “English 183ts: Taylor Swift and Her World”. Course instructor Stephanie Burt appealed to ardent Swifties to assist with its course dedicated entirely to the global impact of Swift. 

 

 

Unreleased Led Zeppelin Footage

23 minutes of previously unseen footage of Led Zeppelin playing live at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan in 1977, has emerged online. The film of the show, before an audience of 76,000, appeared on a YouTube channel dedicated to ‘Speedy’ Jim Kelly, a professional photographer who regularly shot 8mm footage of the shows he attended in the 1970s. “Elvis Evolution”, the first-ever Elvis hologram, will premiere in London this November. The “jaw-dropping concert experience” will see the king of rock’n’roll brought to life via a life-sized virtual hologram, using thousands of photos and home-video footage pieced together by AI.

 Elton John and Brandi Carlile have apparently recorded an album together. John’s friend, The Who’s Pete Townshend, said to Clashmusic: “They made an album together in two weeks. He says it’s one of the best things they’ve ever done.”

Eddie Vedder's Holiday Surprise

The Pearl Jam frontman had a heartwarming holiday surprise for a few young musicians in Hawaii. A Facebook post from Coconut Grove Music teacher Harry Koizumi says Vedder stopped into the store and “asked if I could help him choose some electric guitars that would be good for younger players”. He then bought 3 of them, and asked if there were 3 younger students that might need them…to help them be inspired!”
