Wham! — have returned to #1 in the UK with ‘Last Christmas’. Originally released in 1984, the song once held the record for the best-selling single never to reach #1 in the UK, after being famously kept at #2 by ‘Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas?’, until it hit the top on New Year’s Day 2021.

Billy Joel Postpones Final 2022 Show Due to Illness

Billy Joel — postponed his final Madison Square Garden concert of the year, scheduled for Monday night, due to a “viral infection.” In a statement, his reps said he is “under strict doctor’s orders for vocal rest” and the show would be pushed back to June 2. It would have been his 86th monthly and 132nd lifetime show at the Garden, in a residency that began in 2014.

Rolling Stones Announce Upcoming Virtual Concert

Rolling Stones — have announced an “immersive” virtual concert to celebrate the release of their of “GRRR Live!” album and concert video. Feb. 2, the show will be available at https://www.rollingstonesnewark.com/ 

 

Originally recorded in 2021 in Newark NJ, the GRRR Live! concert featured several guest collabs, including with Lady Gaga, The Black Keys, Gary Clark Jr & John Mayer, former Stone Mick Taylor, and Bruce Springsteen.

The Eagles Make Their YouTube Debut

Eagles – have finally made their official debut on YouTube, launching 8 remastered videos from their archives. Those include the classic 1977 live performance of ‘Hotel California’ (A bootleg version had a million views), ‘Hole in the World’, ‘In the City’, ‘I Can’t Tell You Why’, ‘How Long’, ‘Busy Being Fabulous’ and live versions of ‘No More Cloudy Days’ and ‘Take It Easy’

Billy Gibbons Jams Out At Birthday Party

ZZ Top – Guitarist Billy Gibbons welcomed guests Joe Bonamassa and The Doors’ Robby Krieger to the stage during his annual birthday jam on Thursday at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, California. Gibbons turned 73 on Friday. 

R.E.M. Artwork Goes Up for Auction

R.E.M. - doesn't play together anymore... but their music is still making new art. Members of the band supported the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund by participating in the creation of some beautiful pieces of art which were created from the sound waves of R.E.M. songs.

The pieces were done by artist Tim Wakefield, and members of the band autographed the five canvases that are being auctioned off to raise money for Sweet Relief's Mental Health Fund, which covers bills for therapy for artists in the music industry.

 

Quiet Riot Shares Un-Released Original Song

Quiet Riot — has released a previously unfinished song featuring late vocalist Kevin DuBrow and late drummer Frankie Banali. ‘I Can’t Hold On’ appears on a newly remastered version of the group’s 2008 album “Rehab”, now streaming.

Elton John Decides to Leave Twitter

Elton John – Friday, he announced he’s leaving Twitter, because it is allowing “misinformation to flourish unchecked.” Twitter stopped taking action against accounts spreading misleading information about Covid-19 last month.

 

In response, Twitter CEO Elon Musk wrote: “I love your music. Hope you come back. Is there any misinformation in particular that you’re concerned about?” 

 

 

 

Alanis Morissette Releases Classic Christmas Song

Alanis Morissette – has released her version of the holiday classic ‘Little Drummer Boy’. She uploaded the single’s cover art to Instagram, showing her leaning her head on Mary’s shoulder as Mary cradles baby Jesus on a California street lined with palm trees. Her caption: “I played my best for you. #thedrummerboy…”

 

Neal Schon Crashes San Francisco Tree Lighting

Journey – guitarist Neal Schon performed with special guest Teddy Swims, who is nearing 1 billion streams of his own version of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’, at the annual tree-lighting ceremony in San Francisco. They were accompanied by the San Francisco Philharmonic Orchestra as they kicked off the holidays with a special concert.

 

 

Madonna's VMA Goes Up For Auction

Madonna – Her “Moonman” – the MTV Video Music Award she won for her 1986 hit ‘Papa Don’t Preach’ is on the auction block with an estimated price tag of $60K. RR Auctions is also selling a Nirvana signed “In Utero” CD booklet (estimated to go for 12K), and Tom Hanks’ military uniform from1994’s “Forrest Gump”. The auction ends tomorrow.

Rolling Stones to Release Live Greatest Hits Album

Rolling Stones – are opening their vaults for the Feb. 10 release of what they are calling a “live greatest hits album”. “GRR Live!” was recorded in 2012 in Newark NJ during the band’s “50 and Counting” tour, and features multiple special guests, including Bruce Springsteen and Lady Gaga. It will be available on vinyl, plus 2-CD, DVD + 2-CD, Blu-Ray+ 2-CD sets.

Mariah Carey – has partnered with Booking.com for “Mariah Carey’s Ultimate Holiday Experience”. John Lennon Focus of Upcoming Documentary

John Lennon – will be a focal point of the upcoming doc “REVIVAL69: The Concert That Rocked the World”. Coming in Jan., it tells of how, in 1969, “young, scrappy concert promoter” John Brower organized the Toronto Rock n Roll Revival music fest. With dismal ticket sales, he “took a one-in-a-million chance in inviting Lennon, propelling the concert into a massively successful event”.
