Jen is Partnering with Indiana Medical Weight Loss

Just so you know, I'm getting to do this program without cost, in exchange for my review.  Now you know.


This is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever written.  It’s going to be emotional, so bear with me.


Eight years ago, I looked like this:


In that eight years, I’ve put on 55 pounds, 25 of that just in the last 2 years. I’m not the first person this has happened to, and I won’t be the last.  Why did it happen? The usual reasons, but the most important one was not taking care of myself. I let kids, work, and everything else get in the way of making good choices about my diet, about exercise, about everything, really.  


So, what changed? At the end of July, I had an emergency appendectomy.  I went to the ER because I was worried I was having a heart attack. Thankfully it wasn’t that, but I ended up having some real talk with my doctor about my weight, and what it was doing to me: high blood pressure, stress on my joints, the possibility of being pre-diabetic.  Those are all scary things.


When Indiana Medical Weight Loss offered me a chance to try out their new meal replacement program, I knew now was a good time to get serious.  This was the heaviest I’ve ever been (even pregnant), and Indiana Medical Weight Loss offers a doctor-supervised program, so I knew I’d be safe and in good hands.  I’ve tried losing weight on my own before, and I wasn’t successful. If I lost weight, it would just come back, those pounds would bring friends.


I began this week, and the first step was getting on that scale, and getting my body composition done (I’ve posted my stats below).   I’m not going to tell you it’s easy, but Dr. Braff and the staff at Indiana Medical Weight Loss gave me tools to make the changes I need to make, so I’m feeling confident.  I have a binder with educational information, that also acts as my food and water journal. I have meal replacements like shakes and bars, but also some really tasty snacks.  I’m learning to eat when I’m hungry, and on a schedule, which may be one of the harder things I’ve learned this week. I have a bad habit of working through and forgetting to eat, and then by the time I realize I’m hungry, I’m STARVING, and raid every candy dish in the building, or run out and get fast food, which I know isn’t healthy.  Knowing that I have food at home and at work, helps keep me accountable. And writing down everything I eat is helping me to see patterns in when I’m hungry. This is just the first step. Eventually, I’ll work on integrating regular food back into my diet and Dr. Braff is already helping me figure out what permanent changes I need to make to stay healthy, like reducing the amount of carbs in my diet, and making sure I’m getting enough nutrients from my fod.  Education is a huge part of this program. 


That’s another good thing: they are only a phone call away if I need them. But I also know that in order for this to work, I have to really want to change.


Here are my beginning statistics.  Hopefully in a week, I’ll see some changes, even if they’re small.  


Height: 5 ft 4.2 in

Weight: 201.3 lbs

BMI: 34.3 (Obese)

Percent Body Fat: 44.6 %
