(Richmond, IN)--New Wayne County Sheriff’s Department deputies make significantly less money than new deputies with other agencies. It’s a problem that drew the attention of Wayne County Council members on Wednesday. Council heard from a consultant that said that new Wayne County deputies make, on average, $7000 less annually than new deputies with 14 other Indiana agencies of similar size. That new deputy would also make $8000 less than a new RPD officer. Sheriff Jeff Cappa has said that it makes recruiting difficult. Council is taking the issue under consideration.
