(Wayne County, IN)--The number of drug overdose deaths in Wayne County this year is currently on pace to nearly double the 57 people who died last year. That’s according to Wayne County Coroner Ron Stevens. If that trend holds, it will mean more than a hundred overdose deaths will occur in Wayne County this year. Stevens said that there have been at least eight local overdose deaths just in the last two weeks. He added that virtually every form of drug coming into the Whitewater Valley now is laced with fentanyl, including heroin, meth, and even marijuana. Earlier this month, Wayne County had its first confirmed overdose from carfentanyl. That’s commonly used as an elephant tranquilizer.
